IronMesh Rivet

A native desktop mail, calendar and contacts client for Windows and Linux.

IronMesh Rivet is a native desktop email client and an Outlook replacement: one installed program, no browser and no runtime to install. It covers mail, calendar, contacts and tasks, and speaks IMAP, POP3, SMTP, Exchange (EWS), CalDAV and CardDAV directly. It has full-text search, S/MIME and OpenPGP, server-side filters (Sieve), Outlook PST import and spell and grammar checking, and it updates itself from signed releases. Gmail accounts can sign in with Google; that sign-in is in testing and limited to approved test users until Google has verified Rivet. Using it needs an IronMesh licence seat.

Getting started. Sign in with your work email and your organisation's IronMesh directory password. If your organisation has a Rivet licence with a seat free, you are given one automatically; if it does not, ask us.

Once installed, Rivet keeps itself up to date from signed releases.

What it does

  • Native, not a website in a frame

    Rivet is a real desktop application. It starts quickly, uses the memory a mail client should use, and behaves like the rest of the operating system it runs on.

  • Your mail on your machine

    Messages are stored locally and indexed for search, so the mailbox works on a train and a search returns before you finish typing. Mail you import into the On This Computer folder, from a PST for example, lives on that PC alone, so keep it in your normal backups.

  • One client for the accounts people actually have

    ChainMail and on-premises Exchange accounts sit side by side in one window, because most people migrating have more than one for a while. Microsoft 365 is next. Gmail accounts sign in with Google; that sign-in is in testing and limited to approved test users until Google has verified Rivet, and Rivet reads that mail on your own computer without sending it to us (see the privacy page).

  • Built on a long-term base

    A long-term-support native toolkit, and a single codebase for every platform, so the Linux build is not an afterthought.
